CAREER FEATURE: Dressing Room 8 – Empowering Women (period!)

No one truly knows the answer of why we are here, but I think we should use our time here wisely. Life should have purpose and be filled with prosperity. My name is Natasha Nurse and I am on a mission to motivate and inspire women to achieve their grandest dreams and more.

As a New Yorker, born and raised, I am used to bumping into people from all walks of life on a daily basis. This makes it easy for me to accomplish my goal of meeting someone new or learning something new everyday. A licensed attorney by trade, I’ve held various positions in the corporate world prior to making a foray into fashion and writing. Having been a victim of bullying as a child growing up, I learned to seek out fashion as a source of strength early on and actively use it as a personal means of empowerment. My experiences with bullying and my strong desire to help others within the plus size community pushed me to launch Dressing Room 8 to provide a web-based resource where women can learn personal and professional development through my fashion and lifestyle focused blog and coaching services.

Looking around, it is easy to find many people who feel trapped and unhappy with their lives. They are stuck in a rut of living their routine lives day after day. This doesn’t have to be the case! If there is something you want to change in your life, it is up to you to live the life that you want. No one else can do this for you. When I realized that my day job was causing me more harm than good, I took the opportunity to devote my life to what I wanted to do – not just talk about it.

If you feel like you should be doing something else, it is time to be very real with yourself. What could you be doing that would make you happier?

Some people would be happier if they spent more time with their families. Some people want to travel more. Other people want to be surrounded by luxury. The point is to figure what is going to make you happy so you can create a clear plan to actually make it happen.

What is it going to take for you to make a change in your life?

To answer this question, there are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself:

As an old soul, I suggest you take pen to paper and really write your answers down. Your plan becomes that more real and concrete in your life.

Feeling fulfilled in life is going to come from your mindset and the actions you take in life. As Maya Angelou said, “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.”

Ultimately, I was fed up with not feeling totally fulfilled. Thus, Dressing Room 8 was born. Purposively and consciously pursuing entrepreneurship allows me to spend each day doing what I actually want to do. I don’t have to worry about being “too creative” or “too different” from my peers. No need to fit inside of other people’s boxes for me. Instead, I created a box for myself!

Can you do the same?

Yes, and I can’t wait to hear what passion you will decide to pursue!
